Trauma is the precursor to PTSD. About 6 of every 10 men (or 60%) and 5 of every 10 women (or 50%) experience at least one trauma in their lives.
Trauma leads to PTSD in about 8 of every 100 Americans (or 8% of the population). This amounts to about 8 million U.S, adults who have PTSD during a given year.
About 30 % of the men and women who have spent time in war zones experience PTSD.- PTSD statistics by conflict:
- Vietnam War: About 50%
- Gulf War: As high as 10%
- Afghanistan War: Between 6 and 11%
- Iraq War: 12% to 20%
